Helping millennials create a better world NOW by sharing the tips I’ve learned on my sustainability journey.
na·ked: adjective undisguised; blatant
sus·tain·a·bil·i·ty: noun meeting our own needs without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs
Too often, I am faced with a purchasing decision: cleaning products, pet care, personal hygiene, everyday life. With capitalism surrounding us everyday on our cell phones through various means, it’s already difficult enough to wade through the multitudes of products to find the best prior to purchasing. Sometimes this means reading all the reviews, finding user testimonies as well as comparing the price, quality, longevity, and possibly shipping timelines before ever making the purchasing decision.
Jeeessh…that’s already a ton of work, right? And what if you’re like me and trying to make informed decisions to help move the world towards a better future? Additional questions that run through my mind might be:
- What kind of packaging does this get shipped in? Is it compostable? Recyclable? Excessive?
- How is the package shipped? Is the company working towards carbon-neutral?
- What is the product made of? Does it classify as vegan? Cruelty-Free?
- Does a small and/or local business have a similar item?
- Does the company have a stance on any of the political and/or socio-economic issues that are important to me?
Sustainability with Life in Mind
As you can imagine, I spend a lot of time researching different products to use in my own life. For the last ten years, I have been slowly (read: slowly) trying to make informed decisions to move towards a sustainable, self-sufficient life. At different times in the last decade, I’ve barely had two pennies to rub together to living a comfortable life, beyond busy with sometimes 80+ hour work weeks, commuting up to four hours a day, traveling full-time, rescued several fur-babies, bought a sixty year old house–all of it. My point here, is that one small decision at a time has enabled me to begin this slow transition to a life that is both self-sustaining and sufficient.
Living my most-authentic life has always been a passion of mine. I have a no-filter attitude and will always tell you like it is. I am excited to bring this same attitude into this community, to share what I have learned so far, and to learn from all of you. As I continue my transition, and the economy (as a whole) makes transitions that may be more eco-conscious, I will be sharing my top tips, tricks, reviews, and research as it pertains to every aspect of my life, from home renovations, to beauty products, and everything in between.
