We are committed to authenticity, transparency, and creating a community where eco-friendly practices are the norm, not the exception. By joining 1% for the Planet, we are taking a concrete step towards fulfilling our mission and supporting the global movement for environmental conservation.
A Childhood Dream Realized
For me, philanthropy has always been more than just a concept—it has been a lifelong dream. I have always wanted (for as long as I can remember) to be one of those people who “gave back.” They were the epitome of adulting, what I wanted my life to look like.
But adulting (along with the housing boom, student loans, and just inflation/life) has gotten in the way, and there are a LOT of causes that I’ve wanted to donate to. Save all the puppies. Support the veterans. End childhood hunge. Stop climate change. All valuable, and NEEDED. But how to support and juggle all of them with the limited funds of a twenty-something finding her way in this world??
From a young age, I’ve always had this fiery passion, and when I stumbled into protecting the environment, I was hooked. This passion led me to create Naked Sustainability, where I could combine my love for the planet with my commitment to helping others easily adopt sustainable practices. Joining 1% for the Planet is the realization of that childhood dream, allowing me to contribute meaningfully to environmental causes and inspire others to do the same.

Why Environmental Giving Matters
Purportedly, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment, and of that, only 5% comes from businesses, both large and small. The planet needs more support than this. And the growing network of businesses in 1% for the Planet is working hard to increase giving by taking action and providing support for on-the-ground change. This can be done through partners that focus on conservancy, restoration, or even education.
By contributing 1% of our annual earned revenue to environmental organizations, we are joining thousands of other businesses in raising millions in funding to support environmental partners around the globe.
Currently, only 3% of total philanthropy goes to the environment and, only 5% of that comes from businesses. The planet needs bigger support than this, and our growing network of business members are doing vital work to increase giving and support on-the-ground action. We’re excited to welcome Naked Sustainability to our global movement.

What is 1% For the Planet?
1% for the Planet is a global organization that exists to ensure our planet and future generations thrive. The organization acts as an accountability partner for businesses supporting environmental partners through annual memberships. They make environmental giving easy and effective through partnership advising, impact storytelling, and third-party certification.

Because of their third-party certifications, we can be sure that our donations go directly to the environmental causes we want to support….and not some random executives pocket.
Started in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies, members have given millions to environmental partners. Today, 1% for the Planet’s global network consists of thousands of businesses and environmental partners working toward a better future.
By contributing 1% of their annual earned revenue, thousands (5200+) of other 1% for the Planet members have raised millions ($625M+) in funding to support environmental partners around the globe.
